This course is designed for anybody considering a career as a service dog handler or those currently working as a service dog handler that have not studied the subjects covered. The content is equally relevant to handlers of Police dogs, detection dogs, search dogs, security dogs, assistance dogs or any others that provide a service.
Legal Responsibilities of the Dog Handler
There are many laws surrounding dogs and although it could be argued that every dog owner should be aware of them all it is crucial that professional dog handlers have a sound understanding of their legal responsibilities.
Canine First Aid
Canine first aid is an essential part of the skills of any professional dog handler. This module covers a wide range of scenarios and actions to be taken along with checking vital signs, compiling a dog"s first aid kit and much more.
Maintaining a Healthy Dog
Routine daily, weekly and longer term health checks, vaccinations, parasite control, toys, diet and needs that change with age are all covered in this comprehensive module.
This module covers the psychological principles behind all dog training, some of the language is technical but each dog handler must be fully conversant with the subject if they are to make the most of training their dog.
Study Level 2 / 3The study Level relates to the how demanding the course is. 1 is beginner and 5 is HND / Foundation Degree level.
4 Module CourseThis course is delivered in 4 study modules which need to be passed to gain the qualification.
